I’m Here I Promise!

Hello, I am terribly sorry I have not updated my research status in quite a bit (side note: I am frequently twittering at on all of my day-to-day happenings). As for my research work, I am have spent the majority of my last couple of weeks enjoying the lovely library at MoMA here in New York City. They have a truly amazing collection of publications on anything modern or anywhere close to it. I have had access to many documents that are 100% unavailable in ‘lil old Williamsburg ( even via Inter-Library Loan). Thinking of the library at MoMA really reminds me of why NYC is such a great resource for researching Art. Not only are there fabulous museums on nearly ever corner, but many of these (like MoMA and The Met) have great libraries open to researchers. Beyond the museums there is the enormous public library system here in the city. Also, there are the university libraries (which I have yet to go and use my five free days of studying). What truly makes NYC a great place to study Art is all of the little places that can really add the core details that can transform your work from inquisitive and revealing (as most research is) to absolutely amazing. Small shops like Ursus (which has a collection of art books that rivals ANYTHING I have ever seen) prove to be invaluable when peering into the art world. Well, as for the content of my research I am still in a very wide range of study at the moment. With each day I further tune into what will soon be the exact topic of my research. My current studies have been on repetition in Warhol’s work especially in his early pop years. I am also investigating how his use of a uniformed aesthetic allowed viewers to concentrate on the subject rather than the formal qualities of his work. Hopefully, I will post again soon!

Lets get started!

OK, well to start off on our research adventure I would like to introduce you to the works in question. Throughout around six years Andy Warhol produced some 400 film portraits called Screen Tests. The sitters included all of Warhol’s superstars and just about anyone who visited the Factory from 1963 to 1969. So that you can get a better idea of what these works are like, you should check out the trailer for a recent release of 13 Screen Tests. The works were set to music by a popular band and released on dvd for Warhol’s first every film release. Here’s the video. YouTube Preview Image
